Springtime: a time to come alive

Spring is a time of new beginnings. Today after almost 3.5 months it was time for somewhat of a new hair style. Typically I get my hair cut every 5-6 weeks max. So I was looking forward to a bit of a new look and a trim.

new hairdo

When I got to my hairdresser I had no idea how I wanted my new hairdo to look. It was nice to see it unfold as she cut and styled it. I was really pleased and kind of shocked to see the amount of curls I have in the back of my head, all natural curls. I had to take a few photos to show you even though I still feel tired from my latest round of Heilkunst remedies and what I went through.

I have some downtime coming up next month, actually complete down time… just me and my sister. No we won’t be walking the Camino de Santiago or going to Sedona unfortunately this year but we do have some special time that we will be spending together to re-connect and just have a lot of sisterly R&R together. That break will do my spirit a tremendous amount of good. Looking at my photo I don’t like what I see for the reason that I see the fatigue that is in me lately. But at the same time I am grateful to be able to see it, so I can do something about it.

The topic of conversation this morning at the hairdresser was about whether spring will ever come this year or not. Everyone is extremely tired of the snow. As beautiful as some winter days have been, it’s time for a different season. I have not heard one person say that they wished that winter would not end. It’s felt like an unusually long winter. I heard this morning that we received more than double the amount of the snow than the previous winter. Someone else said that on this day a year ago they were out on the golf course.

All I want is for my lawn chairs to be brought outside, one on the front verandah and one on the back deck… so I can sit 20 minutes a day and have the sun warm my skin and give my face some colour again. The sun on my skin always makes me feel alive and full of energy and always renews my spirit.

This past month I have also been thinking of doing a spring cleanse. I often will do cleanses in the spring and in the fall. I find it to be the best thing I can do for my health. My body lets me know when it’s almost time to start the next one. There’s no way I could have started it this past month even though I was thinking about it. My body was going through a lot of changes from the healing from my remedies and adding a cleanse was not the perfect time at all.

Today is the first day in close to 6 weeks that I feel like the end of this healing reaction is near. My mouth is much less swollen, not so sore and red and even the cracks in my lips are healing faster it seems. Today I was able to open my mouth with greater ease so I could eat. It will still be a few more days before I can laugh or smile properly without straining my lips without feeling like they will tear.

So out came a few books today to get me started on my cleanse. I will start this weekend making some soups and broths and by the end of the weekend or next week I will probably be doing the Master CleanseI am not giving myself a deadline date for how long I want to do this cleanse. I feel that I will be on some sort of detox – cleanse and more intense period of self-care for a little while. I have done the Master Cleanse several times over the years and one time I did it for 21 days. It felt amazing like nothing else I had ever done. If I think of doing it for 21 days this time, then I probably will not do it. So I can’t set a date. Last time I did the Master Cleanse I swore that I would never do it again. But here I am feeling guided to do this cleanse again. So never say never. 🙂 I will allow my body and my intuition to tell me when the right time to end it will be. It could be 2 days or it might be weeks. I totally trust.

detox & cleansing books

My goals are to detoxify my body and feel lighter, maybe even lose 10 lbs, de-clutter my mind, slow down and take more time for self-care, rest, and start moving my body more (I won’t use the word exercise). I just want to focus on doing a lot of really good things for myself. Next month I’ll be celebrating my 55th birthday, I have no clue how I got to this number so fast. My parents are probably thinking the same thing. It seems in a blink of an eye 30 years have gone by.

I realize just how grateful that I am for my life, my family and all that I am blessed with. Lately I am finding it crucial that I focus even more on self-care and spending time reflecting about my life and zooming my focus more directly on all that is truly important and enriching to me at this stage of my life. It feels like I need to do some weeding out on many levels.

I want to begin transforming my energy into one of manifesting a new reality for this next phase of my life, by attracting all that truly feeds my soul in every way imaginable!

A time of cleansing always brings me to a more reflective time. So I am very much looking forward to the next days and weeks and all the goodness that will come from doing a cleanse.

This weekend will be a time for me to make some soups and broths and begin the journey towards the Master Cleanse in a few more days. I will be taking time to put all the information that I want to work with in some sort of creative way that will look appealing. It will help me to stay focussed on my destination and goals for this next little while. I really look forward to giving my body a break from digesting food and focus on detox and cleansing it instead.

I would love to hear your view and thoughts about cleansing and detoxifying the body. Have you ever tried this yourself?

I really enjoy reading of your mind/body/soul exploratations Suzanne. Your path is so different from mine, yet your midlife thoughts and wonderings and intentions resonate so very much! You always give me much food for thought. I’ve always wanted to do the sorts of cleanses that you’re speaking of, but have found that they are almost lethal to my system, which must have significant amounts of protein to survive! For me, a detox is no form of sugar or grain and has amazing effects…we are all so different! I am wishing you full recovery in your healing process and a joyous spring!!

    • Hi Barbara, thank you for sharing. I love that you know what your body needs to detox. We are all very different and must respect each our own body and what it is telling us. Thank you for the well wishes in my healing process. xo

  2. All the best, Suzanne. I agree with Barbara, different ideas and things going on but still feelings of sisterhood in my heart for you and your feelings and needs. The 50’s are challenging in so many ways. It’s mid-life but some days it feels like things have left, are over, moved on. So many reasons to fight that off but it is still a tussle to be had.

    • We each have our own journey through this time in oud mid-life don’t we. It certainly is a time to contemplate, re-assess, let go, visualize and create the new and so much more. It’s a wonderful time to explore deeper within than ever before. Thank you for visiting Becky. 🙂

  3. Hi Suzanne, I hope you feel better and more vital soon. For me, I try to eat in a detox sort of way. Occasionally I’ll eat a bit of junk, but not much. I think a good blast (the type you’re talking about) helps, but to maintain it with a lots of fruit and veg in the diet is good. So is regular exercise. That’s what works for me, anyway.

    • Yaz, I agree with choosing to each lots of fruit and vegetables in the diet is the best way to do it for our wellbeing along with exercise. I eat fairly healthy. But every year feel drawn to doing a cleanse in the spring and fall as well.

  4. Oh, and I love the HAIR!!!!

  5. Hi Suzanne- Loving the new hairdo, and perfect for Spring. I think we are all looking forward to some warmer weather. And i agree Spring seems to bring a sense of renewal and hope. Good luck with your Cleanse!

    • Loved having you drop by Sue. Spring has arrived finally, the last several days the snow has been melting. Another week or less and it should all be gone. Happy Spring to you. xo

  6. I agree with you that time goes by fast. I’m going to turn 62 in August and most of me still feels 17 except for the arthritis and the wrinkles on my hands. There are many ways to detoxify your life. What things interfere with you? Is it TV, money, food, people, the news? Is it just the way you react to the world? Thanks for the post. Cleanse or not to cleanse, I’m not sure you’ve decided, yet.

    • Love how young you still feel Sheila. I hear what you are saying about the different ways that a person can detox. TV went out a long time ago for me, I rarely listen to it anymore. For myself it’s more about giving my body a break from digesting food for a while, and also releasing the toxins. I did decide, and am doing the Master Cleanse, I just finished my first drink this morning. 🙂

  7. your hair looks adorable…..i love the little twirls of curl in the back:)
i’d love to look that wonderful in that fresh, easy cut!
big hope to you as you wait for the springing
and much love in your leaning into,

    • Thank you Jennifer. 🙂 Spring has pretty much arrived, the snow is finally melting and the warmer weather is arriving. The robins (birds) have arrived and that is always a sign of nice spring weather coming. xo

  8. First off, I love your hair. I have always loved short hair on women. You exude such confidence, I love it.

Secondly, about the cleanse… yes. I have tried many. Before I knew anything about cleanses, I was forced to detox after my body was telling me, through me horrible eczema, that something was absolutely off. Long story short, my naturopath guided me through a cleanse, with herbs – for 3 months! It was difficult because I was off gluten and other allergy inducing foods. I followed it to the T and saw the amazing results, and then I was hooked. The second cleanse I did was a mild food cleanse, for 12 days. And the last one I did was with herbs for 12 days. I find that the days are emotionally challenging, more than being physically challenging.

I have been contemplating a spring cleanse as well, so this was a great motivating post, Suzanne! Good luck with your cleanse!

    • Thank you Gabriella. For the cleansing that is how I was convinced about the importance of cleansing. I had a naturopath and for 2 months I did the cleanse to a T like you describe the results were amazing. My allergies were all gone, I had lost 26 lbs. and felt amazing. I had never felt better in my entire life. So I know exactly what you are talking about. Thank you for sharing your story. xx

  9. Yes Suzanne! Springtime is the time of renewal! We are all looking forward to its emergence! Last Sunday, we had 15 inches of snow and today it was 64! The air had that sweet smell of spring and all that snow…it’s almost history! xo

  10. Love your hair! And love your commitment to taking loving, nourishing, nurturing care of yourself! I hope your down time next month is just the joyful relaxing restorative you need.

I’ve done 3-4 day juice fasts over the years, but haven’t done one in many months. I think I’m called to do some again this Spring.

  11. I am soooo hungry for spring! The snow is finally leaving here this past week and it even rained this weekend and that helped a lot. I’m participating in Catherine Just’s In Plain Site and chose to take photos of the courtyard each day for 30 days and the change has been amazing. Anyone else may not see it but all the little details I notice and the pace of the snow leaving has been amazing. Good luck with your cleanse. I’ve been feeling the need to do the same…we’ll see where it goes 🙂
Michele Bergh recently posted..Sign, Sign, Everywhere a SignMy Profile

    • What a great idea photographing your courtyard each day for a whole month. The changes can be drastic no doubt. The snow has finally melted a great deal here as well. Spring is arriving. All the best to you also if you decide to do a cleanse. 🙂

  12. I am curious to why you said that you would never do it again? I have heard of the Master Cleanse. I sounds intriguing.

How fun to have your sister visiting. My husband surprised me this week by clearing all the snow off the deck and arranging the chairs and table so that I can sit out there. I always love to sit out there when the weather gets nice. I love Spring!

    • I am not sure why I said that I would never do it again. I don’t know if I did it when I felt I was maybe forcing myself and that didn’t work well. I feel that was the reason. So I will see how long I will last this time around, today is day 1 of the Master Cleanse. 🙂
Actually my sister is only an hour away from me and I get to see her often. We will be taking a vacation together this time. It’s our first time doing this for more than a day or two. Thank you for dropping by. xo

  13. Hi Suzanne, your yard looks very coooold! We’ve got sun and flowers over here. I just looked at a beautiful picture of your garden but the subject was snakes in the yard! I think I would lose my mind if I ever found a snake in my garden. Ack! Hope your cleanse goes well.
    Take care,
    Lenore

    • Hi Lenore, I love that you are enjoying the warm sun and flowers already. It’s not quite here for us, but slowly it’s coming. So you don’t desire to see any snakes in your garden? I don’t care to see them either, but as long as I am able to spot them at a distance I guess it’s not so bad. Thanks for dropping by. xo

  14. Hi Suzanne! Hope you are doing well. Thanks for dropping by my blog. I’m a little behind on replying. How is the cleanse going? My husband has done the Master Cleanse a couple times. I have yet to try it. I recently began drinking lemon water in the morning before breakfast and that alone is doing good things to detoxify. I feel you on the spring time thing. I always get the urge to cleanse, renew, refresh…new beginnings right? It’s the perfect time for manifesting. Thank you for sharing your stories and beautiful photographs. Talk to you soon!

    • Hello Mila, thank you for coming over to my blog. The cleanse is ending for me. I think doing the lemon in your warm water in the mornings is a great detox also even on it’s own. I hear what you mean about spring time and the urge to cleanse, renew, refresh… for me next is spring cleaning our home. It always feels so good after having everything closed up all winter. Happy spring to you. 🙂
