Losing weight, re-gaining health on "The Plan - Lyn-Genet Recitas" — suzanne-mcrae.com

Losing weight, re-gaining health on “The Plan – Lyn-Genet Recitas”

One of my latest commitments has been sixty-days on “The Plan – Lyn-Genet Recitas”. So many awesome things have been unfolding for me because of this commitment I have made to myself to be brave and to go and explore.

Over the years my weight has slowly been creeping up to the point where I felt uncomfortable with the extra 15 lbs or more that I was carrying let alone not liking how I felt in my body. I was short of breath when walking and climbing stairs. It was time to take a serious look at this. I had something else in mind that I wanted to do that would help me possibly release the weight (more on that in a later blog post), that was until I met up with a friend I had not seen in quite a while. When I saw her I couldn’t believe the transformation she had undergone. She looked so fabulous and amazing, not to mention incredibly healthy. She had lost almost 30 lbs. Without a doubt I knew that I wanted the same thing she had… what she had achieved for herself and that she did by following “The Plan by Lyn-Genet Recitas“.

Prior to this I was very iffy about trying one more thing to lose weight and get healthier. I have my set of beliefs about that subject and I’m picky in my choices. I’ve done some silly things in my life when it comes to weight-loss and food so I have learned a few things that help guide me better maybe today. What I do know that is so much has to do with our emotional state I feel. But seeing my friend and listening to her rave about this program had me sold before I even got back home that day. I immediately ordered the book, a digital bathroom scale as well as a basal body temperature thermometer, the three things needed to get going. I hate bathroom scales and had not used one in probably years, simply because it never made me feel better when I would step on it. But this time stepping on a scale would be used with a slightly different purpose in mind (more on that in her book).

Yesterday was my 60th day mark on following The Plan and I have lost all the weight I was hoping would come off and more. I’m down 18.5 lbs and I feel that my body will probably let go of a bit more weight before it’s done balancing things out to where it needs to be. For the first time in a very long time I feel awesome in my skin. Not only have I lost weight but I no longer am having physical symptoms when I eat certain foods (unless I am testing food that I react to) and I no longer feel sluggish and uncomfortable. My weight is now a bit lower than it was when we got married 28 years ago… a few more pounds and I’ll be at my high school weight. Yikes! When I think of it this is crazy, that was 37 years ago. I’m no longer having huge battles about my body image. I have work to do now to get in shape and get to where I’d love to see myself. I did some aqua fitness this summer and have plans to do Zumba this fall. I’m loving myself a lot more. All that I’m really doing is eating foods that make my body happy especially when there are no reactions and the rest of the transformation happens on its own. This has had domino effects in so many areas of my life.

The Plan, a 20-day program but it took me about 40-days to go through it, same amount of time that it took my friend. Its a life changing process where you will never want to eat the same way you did before. You begin to see and understand how even the healthy foods you may have eaten before could be a big culprit because your body’s chemistry does not agree with that food. As you figure out what foods are reactive to your body’s chemistry, you learn to stay away from those foods. It’s simple. Eating foods that are non-reactive reduces chronic low grade inflammation which is the basis for premature aging, disease and weight gain. The Plan is exactly that, a plan already mapped out for you to follow.

The Plan is not a diet. It’s a complete change of your mind-set.

twenty days will radically change the way you look at diets, your daily weight, and food… Lyn-Genet Recitas

I joined a few different Facebook groups for The Plan. Being in those groups offers a tremendous support as I journey through this new way of eating that I have fully embraced. The resources that in the ‘Files’ sections are also extremely helpful. Lyn also has a wonderful website that you won’t want to miss. I started a Pinterest board with a few resources about The Plan. I hope to be able to find more as time goes and Pin them there for easy access.

During the past 60 days my experience have been… I never thought that it was possible to eat this much food at one meal. Not just any food, but incredibly awesome whole foods and to lose that much weight doing it is an amazing bonus. I’m rarely ever hungry, when I am there’s always an emotional reason behind it. When I had met my friend and she had told me about this program, she mentioned that when she’d eat breakfast she couldn’t wait to prepare lunch or the next meal because all the meals were so incredibly good. I kind of chuckled and wondered, but little did I know. Now I’m doing the same thing. I don’t believe that I’ve ever enjoyed eating as much as I am. I also didn’t think it was possible to drink half my body weight in ounces of water, but I’m doing it. At first I thought I was drowning in the amount of water I was taking in, let alone the many bathroom breaks that are needed. After just a few short days you are allowed to drink wine and even have dark chocolate after dinner. I discovered that my thyroid reading is slightly low so I’m following a different menu from her website called the ‘spring thyroid menu’ that is helping me be less reactive to some foods that are not ideal when there’s a thyroid issue. There were a few days where I felt like opening up a window and trashing my book and everything that went with it. It probably took me 40 days or so to get into he groove of The Plan. I still don’t know everything that I need to know about it. There’s so much to learn. I’m still testing some foods one at a time to see which ones I can add to my food plan and which ones I need to stay away from. When I started The Plan, I had not been cooking dinners for probably almost 6 years (I know I’m lucky)… that was my daughter’s job, as well she did the grocery list and shopping most of the time. So I was big time out of practice in the kitchen department. A good thing I didn’t realize to what extent I was out of practice because I may not have done it. I’m back in the kitchen preparing 3 meals a day for myself and sometimes even for my family, making my grocery list for my meals and also doing most of the grocery shopping. It takes a lot of preparation at first until you get in the groove of it. You need to practice being patient. It does take time and patience but OH IT IS SO WORTH IT!! Every single ounce of effort is worth its weight in gold in my opinion. The thing I crave the most now is goat cheese. I’m not sure that I had ever eaten goat cheese until 60 days ago, now I wish I could eat it at every meal. When I asked in the Facebook group what I could do about this craving, What I needed to do was to make sure that I was getting plenty of olive oil and/or avocados in my daily diet. As soon as I increased my dose of the healthier fats the cravings have reduced considerably, but I still love goat cheese a lot. Slowly I began to notice that I was really tired by 10-11 pm every night as opposed to going to sleep at 1-2 am most nights or some nights even later. Tonight is one of those exceptions of not being able to sleep. After a solid 2.5 hours of sleep tonight I was wide awake, so I decided to get up and write a blog post. Yesterday I had an EFT session with a practitioner where I got to do a lot of inner work and by the looks of it, it ended up energizing me.

If you are curious about The Plan, then I highly recommend that you buy the book. I don’t recommend the kindle version for the reason that this will be a book that you will highlight, write in it and flip back and forth daily and often. It will become your new food bible no doubt. Or you may want to get both the book and kindle version.

The Plan

In 6 months I’ll be able to re-test the foods that I reacted to. The 6 month wait will give my body a chance to reduce even more inflammation which will make my body possibly less reactive. For me some of the reactive foods have been wheat, rye bread/crackers, almonds, lentils, pork, and potato chips to name a few. When I tested potato chips I was so excited that day to sink my teeth into crunchy salt-free potato chips… within the hour and a half I had incredible stomach pains and the next morning a weight gain, all clearly indicating a reaction. Thinking I could test a few weeks later, then I discovered that it’s best to wait 6 months so you have a better chance at having your body adapt and be less reactive. I thought oh no, what will I do I can’t even have a handful of chips once in a while… not that I ate them often at all but I love them. So now my new alternative is oven baked kale chips and they are so yummy.

Don’t let me influence you, but if you are curious about The Plan, check it out. If you think this is something you’d like to try, then listen to your inner voice and you will not be sorry that you did. Lyn-Genet and her team also offer support if you wish one of the experts to guide you along.

Still unsure? Be sure to watch Dr. Oz interviewing Lyn-Genet Recitas about The Plan and eliminating reactive foods from your diet.

  6. Hi Suzanne:
Congratulations!!! So wonderful to read about this exciting new beginning for you! I was wondering if there is any mention in the book about the role food has in triggering autoimmune disease. I am really struggling with autoimmune issues and am working on my diet to try and find some relief.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

    • Hi Amy, I just looked in the index of the book and there doesn’t seem to be any mention of autoimmune in the book. I would contact Lyn-Genet Recitas though if you think you might be interested in trying The Plan for your health and wellbeing. She along with a team also offer services to those that need it while being on The Plan. Knowing which foods react with your body’s chemistry might prove to be a good thing to help the autoimmune issues. But then again I certainly am not an expert at all, so I would ask Lyn the questions. All the best to you with your health.

  7. Sounds like a great way to really explore and honor what your body needs! This summer seems to be the summer for weight loss/personal healing and growth! I love that.

    • I have to agree with you Michele. It seems to be the kind of summer I’ve had… focused on my needs with eating/weight loss, healing and growth. It’s been a busy summer for sure around here. Hope you are well. xo

  8. My husband and I started on June 25, 2013 and are SO satisfied with THE PLAN (we’re on the same schedule of 60 days with you, no??!! 🙂 )…Hubby is down 44 lbs and I’m down 18 lbs! 🙂 This has been life changing. We have a 3 yr old and a one yr old, so sometimes I’m making multiple meals but the work involved is worth it. Like you say, it gets better and second nature as you go along. I remember the first couple weeks feeling so overwhelmed. We’re still Planning away…I’m hoping for at least another ten pounds and hubby is hoping for another 80!!! Love this blog post from you!

    • Hi Jody, I’m so happy that you dropped by to read my post and to leave this awesome comment. I congratulate you and your husband, that is awesome success for both of you with weight loss in such a short period of time. I started The Plan the exact same day as you. That is so cool. I’m sticking with it also. I was just off for 4 days when we went away and went back on as soon as I came back home. I wish you both continued success. Please drop by again. Loved having you here. 🙂

      • Thank you so much. I will be back! 😉
We went to a wedding at the end of July…hotel stays, restaurants, reception feast of a 6 course meal :O …and I only gained just over a pound…hubby actually lost!! Couldn’t believe it….we of course did carrot ginger soup when we came home to purify ourselves again! 🙂 But Lyn Genet’s Plan is amazing. I wish EVERYone knew this info. 🙂

        • Jody, you did better than I did with restaurant food. Impressive to say the least. I was away for 4 days and gained almost 6 lbs because of restaurant meals. But it came off in the first 3-4 days of being back on The Plan once I was back at home. I also wish EVERYone knew this information about The Plan. 🙂

  9. I couldn’t agree more, check out my journey too. It is good to have friends to connect with. Loving this so much. 10 lbs so far!! Way to go you’re doing great!!

For some reason, even though I am not liking how I look and feel, I have this feeling that the time hasn’t come yet. BUT… I know you are right and I’ll look into this book and Plan. 🙂

    • You are so right Naomi, until we are fully ready it’s not going to happen. I battled with that myself for several years, and The Plan is what did it for me. It doesn’t mean it’s for everyone, but it resonated enough with me to have me stick to it. Good luck to you whenever you’ll be ready with whatever you will choose to get you there.

  13. Suzanne, thank you so much for writing about this and bringing the Plan to my attention. I started 4 days ago and have already lost 5 pounds without being hungry. Last year I did a 10 day strict detox and only lost 1 pound. I am starting to understand why, with my lower thyroid levels. So interesting! I am grateful to have found something that works for my body, and helps me understand what works for it, and what doesn’t.

    • Nancy, I’m so thrilled to hear how well you are doing already on The Plan. I’m very happy that you chose to give it a try. You will never be hungry on The Plan. Actually it took me a while to get used to eating as much as I was. lol Wishing you much success.

  14. Quick question- I’m just starting the Plan, going to be working with Lyn-Genet, but am having trouble finding any facebook groups that are active. Can you suggest the groups you referenced? Thanks so much for your insight and congrats on your results!

    • Hi,
I’ve been doing The Plan for about 20 days now, I am looking for a group as well. I am reacting to so many foods that I am really getting frustrated. I have only lost 5 pounds, and I have put major efforts and been really true to the Plan. It is difficult because she adds in more than one food at a time, so it is difficult to figure out for sure which food is causing the reaction. I also reacted to the dandelion root tea majorly (itchy eyes, throat), so that has proved difficult because NOW liver detoxifier also has dandelion root in it. If you find a group, please post it, I am looking for a group as well.

      • Kathy,
Hang in there! There is hope…I joined the FB group called: Doing The Plan, it is a great group of very very experienced planners with tons of resources! Also you want to follow the menus on the website, NOT the book. Lyn-genet has ammended a lot of the tests since the book came out so there is much less of the multiple foods etc. if you go to http://www.lyngenet.com then: the book, tips for book readers, the new menus are there. I hope this helps and i see you in the FB group:0) i really do think it will help you!

  15. Thank you for this post. Ive read the book, printed my menu and shopping list…im excited to start. I took my temp for 3 days and got an average of 96 so I am doing the spring thyroid menu. Im currently looking for places of support.

  16. Hi Suzanne,

I just started The Plan & going on to Day 3 of the cleanse tomorrow. Would you please tell me what Facebook support sites you found as I have many questions & would love to help support others as I learn through this process? Your blog on The Plan inspired me & encouraged me to keep going with this even though there’s so much prep for meals & I have my doubts about being able to maintain this as a lifestyle to keep the weight off. If you would share what Facebook support groups you were/are a part of, I would really appreciate it.

    • Hi Leona, the few Facebook groups that I know of are called “The Plan” and “Doing the Plan”. Just do a search on Facebook and ask to join the closed group and someone will accept you in. The groups are really supportive from what I experienced last year. There’s also “The Lyn-Genet Plan”, that one is Lyn-Genet Recitas Facebook page that you can simply click LIKE to keep updated. This one is the author of the book. Thank you for writing. Wishing you all the best on The Plan.
