It’s my one-year blog anniversary!!!

It’s my blog’s one-year anniversary today. I am so excited to be celebrating this huge accomplishment in my life.

Before I gave birth to my blog, there was probably decades of dreaming. The dreams, visions, ideas, and many thoughts that were growing inside of me for so long. As the gestation period came closer to my dreams becoming reality, it started to become painful. The weeks and month leading up to me clicking the publish button on my first blog post felt agonizing at times. It felt like I had landed in a foreign country where I couldn’t speak the language kind of. I had to somehow find my way, and learn how to put a website together. I had to learn how to write a blog post and make sure that what I wrote could even be found through search engines online. There were so many details. But this dream was ready to come to life, whether I was ready or not. The weight of the dream had become heavy, it was pushing me to give birth to it. There was no going back. I could no longer ignore that it was growing and wanted to come into the world. I felt the due date nearing. There’s no way that my dreams could remain hidden any longer. I was being pushed out of my comfort zone. It was time to see the birth of this baby.

Late on the evening of April 27, 2012, I sat there by myself in my living room almost trembling as I moved the mouse on my laptop over the word ‘publish’ and clicked it for my very first blog post to go live. I was so excited, but felt extremely nervous and nauseated. The butterflies in my stomach had to be the size of my fists, but yet amidst what felt like turmoil there was an incredible joy and feeling of trust. It was close to midnight that evening, and I felt so much in the dark about what I was about to embark on. This felt so much bigger than anything I had ever done. But at the same time I had no doubt that I had to do this regardless of any doubts or fears that I had.

Life is a journey...

My very first post was “Life is a Journey”. I didn’t really know what I was going to write about. Part of me felt that I would probably be sharing about my journey with having a son who has autism. And what I thought would end up being more about the autism part of my life turned out to be much more than just that. I really didn’t know how it was all going to unfold. But I knew that this was a huge leap of faith for me.

What this past year has taught me is that life certainly is a journey, and we don’t always know where it will take us as much as sometimes we think we do. I also discovered that my blogging ended up being more for myself than anything else. It reflects back to me exactly what I need to see, and so I can solve some of the puzzles and uncertainties in my life. Blogging has given me a sort of freedom and a way to bring my voice out into the world, even if it’s just for me to hear.

Writing is helping me not only to talk the talk, but walk my talk in a better way.

“Blogging has been one of the best medicines that I could have given myself for personal growth… it is helping me to walk my talk more”

The medicine doesn’t always taste good, but when it shows up as my reality, I take the needed dose and try to learn what is required. I love learning what life has to teach me even if I’m not always happy about it.

Writing has had a way of putting a mirror right in front of me, to help me see so many things about myself. Reflecting back at me exactly what I need to see, acknowledge and what needs to be worked on. I have a strong desire for spiritual and personal growth, which makes blogging a perfect companion for me, so I can see exactly where I’m at on this learning journey. Eventually, I’m hoping it will show more my true essence.

“Through blogging I find that I am able to share parts of me that I have never been brave enough to share before!”

Now I’d like to share with you some of my favourite posts that I have written in my first year of blogging. Feel free to go and check them out…

what an exciting journey it’s been finding so many like-minded creative souls on a similar journey

it almost seems like you have come from every corner of our planet

my family and friends

and my husband and our children, you have been my biggest cheerleaders and truly helped me to believe in myself

each of you, your support is appreciated like you cannot even begin to imagine

you have given me the courage to spread my wings with greater ease as I took flight with some of my dreams this past year.

A simple thank you, seems not enough

my wish for you is that every positive vibe that was ever sent my way come back to you many times over, as my expression of gratitude for what I have received from all of you

I thank you with all of my heart for being a part of my journey!

Now it’s time for me to go and celebrate and to begin dreaming of this next year of writing. 🙂

I think its stellar that you made it this far on your first-try at blogging, so many seem to get caught up in getting attention and fizzle out when that doesn’t happen. But I can tell you have truly written this – as you said – for yourself. I’ve really enjoyed reading and am so glad to have met you this past year! Keep on writing!
