Springtime: Master Cleanse

This past week I have done the Master Cleanse. I felt due for a cleansing. I wrote a bit about it here. That first day was also an afternoon that caused me a bit more stress than usual with the power outage, but I managed to not allow that to derail me.

Ten days ago I began preparing to do the Master Cleanse. For the first three days I ate only vegetable soups and made myself a few smoothies.

On day 4 it was the 1st day of the Master Cleanse. Doing the Master Cleanse is easy, the biggest part is preparing yourself not to eat for a period of time. The rest such as preparing a few ingredients to make your drink, that takes a few minutes at most. All that was needed was a bit more conscious effort to remember not to eat. It’s such an automatic thing that we do, eating everyday.

I had not set goals for how long I wanted to do the Master Cleanse. I wanted to be guided by my gut feeling and what felt right.

On day 2 of the cleanse:

  • productive day with all sorts of odds and ends little tasks that never seem to get all accomplished
  • felt energized and was not experiencing any detox effects from the cleanse

On day 3:

  • tongue whitish in colour, toxins were being released

On day 4:

  • most of the day feeling a bit of brain fog, not quite a headache

Day 5:

  • I did state that I thought I would aim to do this for 10 days

I had done the Master Cleanse several times over the years. About 5 years ago, I had accomplished staying on the Master Cleanse for 21 days. I had found it easy enough to do and I also mostly felt amazing, other than at the beginning when the detox was going on.

If anyone doubts what a cleanse or a fast can do, this quote puts it into perspective nicely…

The average person, not familiar with fasting, believes he will certainly die if he misses a meal. When you hear of a person dying after being lost in the woods or at sea for two or three days. It was not lack of food that caused his death, but it was panic and fear that killed him.  – “missing a meal won’t hurt – Herman Schneider”

This time with the cleanse I wanted to go one step further which I had not done before. And that was to take a Laxative Herbal Tea right before bed, and first thing in the morning on an empty stomach take 1 quart of warm water with some uniodized sea salt. The whole thing must be drank within minutes and then wait for the salt solution to do its job. On day 2 I tried it. I found it hard to drink the quart of sea salt solution but I did. It didn’t take long to flush out the toxins that day. On day 5 I tried it again, still having a hard time to drink the sea salt solution. Most of the rest of that day it kept me running to the bathroom. I don’t know why it was different from the first time. Anyhow, I still think doing this technique was way easier than experiencing colon hydrotherapy.

Some other things I did/experienced during my cleanse:

  • I walked every day about an hour, only missed a few times because of the cold windy days.
  • I experienced a flare-up of my Heilkunst healing reaction on day 3. I had 2 days this past week that I was sure that I was so near the end with this healing, not so it looks like. I even had to cancel a dental cleaning because I won’t be able to open my mouth enough.
  • In the 5 days on the Master Cleanse I lost 3.5 lbs.
  • I was inspired to be on Pinterest during my cleanse, looking at yummy recipes. No, it did not feel like torture at all looking at food recipes. I was just preparing some healthy recipes ideas for when I would be done with my cleanse.
  • I received a Reiki session from my husband last evening, and that helped me feel revived after a more difficult day after doing the water/salt solution.

This time around with this cleanse, I was choosing to do it more to release toxins from my body and to get healthier. Now that I have done the cleanse and am satisfied, I know that I need to continue moving more and eat lighter, smaller portions and maybe even incorporate a bit more raw food into my diet. Then I may just see the unnecessary 10 lbs, drop off. Being more active will help do the trick also I have no doubt.

So yesterday after 5 full days on the Master Cleanse and even after stating I thought I’d try to do it for 10 days… I had to stop it. I began to do the next phase which was to break the cleanse properly. I have 3 days of doing this part before resuming normal eating.

I do have some healthier recipes on there that are raw. Pinterest is an amazing source of inspiration when it comes to recipes and healthier lifestyle. I am not advocating that you should do this cleanse. It is a very personal choice. If after educating yourself and you feel drawn to doing it, then go for it. Last time I did this cleanse it was probably several years ago and at that time I said that I would not be doing it again, but I did. Now I am ready to explore the many other options available, like eating a healthier cleansing/detox type of foods regularly and to be more mindful of the choices that I make. I will not say that I will never do this cleanse again but for now my books and ingredients are put away and I am happy.

  5. I completed a cleanse awhile back. I used the book “Clean” by Dr. Alejandro Junger, which was recommended to me by my daughter who had done it several times. I admit I was nervous about it when I started but it went pretty well. I lost weight and ate right and felt really good. However, I have recently noticed some of those bad food choices creeping in again and was thinking I needed to at least do a mini-cleanse again to get back on track.
